So, I’m a feed reader, doing crazy amounts of information processing every day, from Cars, to Gadgets, to Cats… The thing that I read the most about of course, is Virtualization. Not just VMware, but Hyper-V and Xen too! (and VirtualIron, and Cloud Computing, and any number of other virtualization things. While right now VMware [...]
I told myself I’d not post on vacation, but alas, this story pulls my heart strings. It’s also happening in Florida, which happens to be where I’m from originally, and where all my friends and family are at.
This comes from the LA Times:
Asia appetite for turtles seen as a threat to Florida species
So the big news last week was that VMware decided it’s time to rename VMware Virtual Infrastructure (or VI as the peeps on the street are calling it these days) to VMware vSphere. The current version seems to be staying on the VI title and the next version will move to this odd naming structure.
So [...]
I have it on good word that as of Wednesday last week the VMware turtles have gone on winter vacation to their condo in the Amazon Rain Forest. They’ll be back after the cold snap ends.
VMware has recently added a searchable tool for their HCL (Hardware Compatibility List). This tool makes it much easier to search for any hardware in question. Also, you can export the results into a spreadsheet if needed:

That I go on Vacation! I’ll be leaving in about 2 hours to sunny Boca Raton, Florida to spend the next two weeks with family and friends for the holidays. The blog volume will likely slow "WAY” down, but I believe I’m leaving you in the hands of some very capable guest posters: Pancil, Darky, [...]
Many of you will say “RAID 5, of course!” and for those of you that do I would like to ask why? Is it because you really understand the differences between the different RAID levels? Granted that you may but have you ever had to do a RAID rebuild of a RAID 5 volume? How [...]
After such great luck with the Windows version, I found a few things. First was that resxtop was not included in the Windows bundle. Which lead me to the second:
/tmp/vmware-rcli-distrib$ ./vmware-install.pl This version of "VMware VI Remote Command Line Tools" is incompatible with this operating [...]
Mr. Epping over at Yellow-Bricks posted this on VMFS3 Heap Size. I’m reposting here for future reference.
I was talking to a fellow consultant today. He ran into the following error messages at one of his customer sites:
vmkernel: 8:18:59:58.640 cpu2:1410)WARNING: Heap: 1370: Heap_Align(vmfs3, 4096/4096 bytes, 4 align) failed. caller: 0×8fdbd0 vmkernel: [...]
