vSphere Custom Drivers – The Coolest New vSphere Installer Screen!

Walking through the full vSphere ESX install today (Not ESXi like I had been using) I came across what seems to be one of the most awesome new features of vSphere ESX: Custom Drivers!

I just don’t have any custom drivers to install right now, but it is gloriously awesome none the less.

  • I've been working on a VB6 file system and I want to make a fs driver so it shows up in Windows as a standard drive. Can I write this driver in VB or do I have to do it in C?
  • Something like this:
    http://vmetc.com/2009/02/26/fluid-operations-ec...
It's an open source VMFS driver.
  • I never knew this at all, but thanks for sharing! Will try and custom mine later.
  • Cool? Yes
Implies whatever you're installing isn't included in the .ISO and thus not on the HCL? Yes
Lab only feature for me. :)
  • Also lets VMware & authorized vendors release supported drivers,
    *without *having
to release a full 'Update' roll up.
